Again, should probably be called a spoonable shake. How would you even combine those words? A Shooke? A Shable? A Spoonake? None really have a good ring for me. Feel free to write in a suggestion, haha. I love this shake because I love chocolate with any fruit, especially berries. I played around with this one a lot since I love chocolate ice cream and I really didn’t want it to taste healthy to the point where you had to really use your imagination for this to taste like a chocolate shake. My friend is doing this Dr. Fuhrman eat to live plan so I looked at some of their recipes and that gave me the idea to throw the spinach in here and it came out great. I don’t know how, but the spinach added a richness to the shake, but didn’t give it any sort of leafy taste or texture. Wild! This has a lot of healthy ingredients, but you can’t really taste them individually (well besides the chocolate). It still retains its rich, dark chocolate, cool, velvety persona.
Berry Chocolatey Shook (?!)
1 cup blueberries (or more for a sweeter shake)
6-8 oz almond milk (I used original)
5 oz spinach (it looks like a lot, but it blends down)
3 tbsp unsweetened dark cocoa powder
1 ripe banana
3 pitted dates
1/2 tsp guar gum
1/3 tsp xantham gum
15-18 ice cubes
Add blueberries, almond milk, spinach, cocoa powder, banana and dates. Blend until all ingredients are combined. Add the “gums” and blend for another 15 seconds. Add ice cubes 3 at a time until you reach your desired consistency. If you have a Vitamix, turn that knob up to about a 7 to really pulverize the ingredients. If you want a sweeter shake, add more blueberries or dates. To amp up the chocolate flavor even more, substitute half of the almond milk with coffee. Don’t worry, the “gums” will still ensure that your spoonable shake is thick and creamy. Some great toppings for this one would be some berries, chocolate chips or almonds. Go nuts!
PS, food photography is really hard. I am clearly an amateur and will surely be embarrassed by these photos one day, but you gotta start somewhere!
One day my chocolate shake photos will look like this:
